Can Rats Use a Hamster Ball?
One of the best ways to keep a rat happy and healthy is to provide them with physical activity. Rats need exercise and balls are a great option for this. However, make sure to choose the right size and type of ball for your rat. It is safer to use a larger hamster ball than a smaller ball.
Rats also need regular play time. You should take your rat out of its cage on a daily basis, or even several times a day. Ideally, you should take your rat to a room in your home where it can explore and enjoy some human contact. You may find that your rat likes to rub your shoulders or be stroked. Your rat needs mental stimulation as much as it does physical stimulation, and it will also enjoy socializing with humans.
Hamster balls are hollow plastic spheres that allow small rodent pets to run around outside their cages. They provide a safe, fun environment for your pets to exercise. And they have an audible rumble, which will help them get exercise. You may also want to keep droppings out of the ball, as these may be harmful to your hamster.
Rats will not use a hamster ball if it has too small of a wheel. It can be a painful experience for them if they get caught on a spinning wheel. The bars on the wheels could cut their tails or toes. Alternatively, a rat wheel made of plastic would be more appropriate for your rat.
