Where Does Mosquitoes Go in the Day?

During the day, most mosquitoes rest. They look for shelter in sheltered areas, such as holes in the ground or caves. They also seek out dark, humid places to sleep. However, some species of mosquitoes feed during the day. These daytime biters are known to spread diseases such as Dengue fever and Chikungunya.

Adult mosquitoes are usually found in a protected area, such as a tree or under leafy cover. They rest during the day and come out to feed at night. They eat bacteria and protozoa, which are also eaten by their larvae. They molt four times during their lifetime, and their pupae spend time in water.

They can also hide during the day if they do not need to feed. They do this by covering themselves in long grass, shrubs, or the undersides of leaves. They also take cover in buildings, like closets, where they can remain active for longer periods.

During the night, mosquitoes look for a cool, damp environment. They do not tolerate the warmth of the sun, and they do not want to be exposed to direct sunlight for prolonged periods of time. The temperature is another factor, as cold temperatures can kill them. They also do not like wind.

Mosquitoes can be found throughout the world. Some of the species are active all year round, while others emerge in the spring and autumn. In Texas, for example, 85 different species of mosquito live in the state.
