Once they reach the adult stage, mosquitoes are able to survive in the outdoors for 2 to 3 weeks. They can also survive for several months in an indoor environment. Some female mosquitoes will even hibernate during the winter. They will emerge when warmer weather returns and they will be out in force.
The first frost is usually a good indication that mosquito season is ending. This is because the cold weather slows down insect reproduction and causes mosquitoes to die off.
Mosquitoes are also known as winged vampires. Their saliva can transfer dangerous substances into the bloodstream. Although it is difficult to get rid of them, there are ways to keep them from annoyating you. Some repellents include incandescent candles, ultrasonic frequencies and sprinkler systems pumping pesticides.
