They can be a real nuisance, especially during winter. This is because cold weather can slow their bodily functions, including flight activity. Some species of mosquitoes can survive cold climates, but others can’t.

The best way to keep these bugs away from your home is to protect yourself. Wear insect repellant when you’re outside, and make sure that your home is kept clean and dry. Using a citronella candle is a good start.

Besides protecting yourself, you can also take steps to reduce the amount of adult female mosquitoes that are present. These females are known to live longer than males. When you’re outside, you can also avoid standing water sources. They need these to lay their eggs.
