Predators of Mosquitoes
Several types of animals are known to eat mosquitoes. These animals are usually considered predators, which means that they are larger than the mosquitoes that they eat.
These predators can help to reduce the population of mosquitoes. Some species of animals prefer to eat only a particular type of insect. These insects may be flies or adult mosquitoes. Other animals will eat the larvae or eggs of the mosquitoes.
Bats and snakes are two of the most common natural predators of mosquitoes. These insects hunt nocturnally, and consume many different nocturnal insects such as beetles and moths. They also often feed on wasps and other small insects.
Dragonflies are another natural predator of mosquitoes. These creatures can consume thousands of mosquitoes in a single night. They can also outmaneuver other insects, and are very agile in flight. Unlike most other insects, they have extremely powerful wings.
These predators are usually considered to be great at reducing the number of mosquitoes in the area. They are excellent at reducing the number of mosquitoes by feeding on the larvae or eggs of the mosquitoes.
The naiads of dragonflies and damselflies are good at consuming the larvae or eggs of mosquitoes. These naiads are similar to the adults of dragonflies, and they have the same predatory qualities. These naiads will take on almost any aquatic animal.
Other birds are known to eat mosquitoes. There are migratory swallows, red-eyed vireos, and songbirds. These birds can be helpful when the mosquitoes are in the beginning stages.
