If you have a skin rash that has been infected by fungi, a prescription medication called topical triamcinolone may be able to help. It’s used to reduce the amount of inflammation in the area and is usually applied twice a day. But, you should always tell your pharmacist if you are allergic to any of the ingredients.
There are also over-the-counter creams that can be used to treat insect bites. Some of these include 1% hydrocortisone cream and baking soda paste. But, these are not as effective as prescription topical steroids.
You should be aware that nystatin and triamcinolone can be absorbed through the nose and eyes. This means you should use these products only on the affected skin. In addition, these products should not be swallowed.
You should also be sure to apply ice to the affected area to slow down the progression of your symptoms. If your bite has not healed after two to three days, contact your doctor.
If your rash is severe, your doctor may prescribe a stronger medication, such as oral prednisone. This can be helpful for extreme reactions to bites, but you should check with your doctor before using it.
