How Many Head Lice Can You Have?
Head lice are a kind of parasite that live on the human scalp. These tiny insects have clawed legs and are two to three millimeters long. They tend to stay close to the scalp and behind the ears. However, they can also be found on the eyelashes and eyebrows.
The first sign of an infestation is itching, which can lead to infections. You may also feel redness or swelling. These are signs that you may have a head lice infection. Prescription lice treatments are available. However, these typically contain stronger medications that can irritate your skin. You should discuss side effects with your doctor before using any medication. Your doctor may also recommend additional treatments to cure the infestation.
Changing the pillowcase is a good way to prevent the spread of head lice. It is also important to make sure that other family members aren’t infected with head lice. Changing pillowcases is not enough; you need to wash and dry them in hot water. If you suspect that your child has head lice, check them regularly.
In the early stages of an infestation, you won’t even know that you have the problem. You may only notice one or two live lice, or even none at all. However, you should be aware that you may have a head lice infestation if you notice a rash or itchiness on your head. Lice can live for up to 30 days on your head if left untreated. A good treatment will eradicate the bugs within two to three weeks.
