Head Lice Treatments at Home
There are a number of ways to get rid of head lice. The most effective way is to treat your child immediately, before the infestation can spread to others. You should not share your child’s pillowcase or clothing with anyone else. Also, avoid sharing other children’s combs, hats, headphones, or towels. Using head lice treatments at home can be a good option.
First, you must determine whether you have head lice. Head lice can be difficult to detect, but lice eggs have distinct characteristics. The nits are shiny, white, and opaque. The eggs are attached to the hair around one-fourth inch from the scalp. In some cases, you may find an empty nit case in the hair.
Lice eggs are small and oval-shaped. They are not easy to see and are often confused with dandruff or hair spray droplets. The eggs hatch into lice within a week and stay on the hair shaft. If the eggs are far away from the scalp, they cannot survive.
A common treatment is using a lice comb to remove the lice from the hair. After combing the hair, apply hair conditioner to the head. The conditioner should stay on for at least 15 minutes. If the lice are still present after the treatment, you should apply another lice treatment.
