Do Head Lice Crawl on Your Body?
Head lice are a serious health concern. They are spread from person-to-person contact on the head and in objects worn on the head or around the neck. The best way to protect yourself from lice is to keep your head clean. However, lice are resistant to common over-the-counter treatments.
Lice are small, six-legged insects that feed on human blood. While they usually stay close to the scalp, they may also be found on your eyelashes or eyebrows. If you notice any of these areas, you should treat them immediately. Lice can cause itching and red bumps on the head. You should avoid scratching excessively, as this can lead to an infection.
Body lice are less common than head lice. They affect people who don’t bathe regularly and are usually found on clothing and bedding. They travel to the skin several times per day to feed on blood. Pubic lice, also known as “crabs”, can most often be found in the pubic area but can also occur on eyebrows and eyelashes.
The most common way to contract head lice is head-to-head contact with an infected person. In addition, they can be spread by sharing clothing or belongings. Lice can live for up to six hours under water, so if you share a bath towel with someone with head lice, you are likely to get infected. However, the risk of getting infested by a louse is very small. As a result, it’s important to follow good hygiene and wash your clothes regularly.
