It’s difficult to feel head lice with your fingers because they’re so small and fast. They have no hind legs, and they feed on your scalp and hair. If you can’t feel them crawling on your head, they’re probably not there. Even if you can, you probably won’t be able to see them.

Kids used to be kept out of school if they had head lice, but these days doctors recommend that kids stay in school until their symptoms subside and then return home for treatment. It’s best to avoid head-to-head contact with your children until they have been treated, and you should keep long hair up in a ponytail or bun.

To check for lice, use a magnifying glass or the naked eye to examine the affected area. While you’re doing this, make sure you use enough light to be able to see the lice. It’s best to use natural light, but if you’re not able to do this outside, use a bright room in your home. You can also use a lamp.

Once you’ve determined whether your child has lice, it’s time to wash your child’s hair and clothing. You need to wash them frequently, using hot water of 129 degrees Fahrenheit or 54 degrees Celsius. Then, you should dry them in a hot dryer for 30 minutes. You can also iron clothing to kill the nits and body lice.
