The first thing to do to get rid of fruit flies is to wash your produce properly. Another thing to do is to clean the area around your fruits and vegetables. Fruit flies are attracted to rotting waste, so be sure to clean up any debris that may have fallen in. Vacuum cleaners with a flexible nozzle are another great way to kill fruit flies. Fruit traps are also helpful, but make sure to use them as soon as fruit flies congregate.

Alternatively, you can also use lemongrass essential oil. This can be mixed with water to kill fruit flies, but it is not safe for human consumption. If you want to use lemongrass oil, it should be diluted with at least two ounces of hot water.
