Why Do Flies Fly Low?

To get to the bottom of flies’ incredible aerial feats, scientists first examined their thoraxes. To do this, they cut off a bump on the lower side called the sub-epimeral ridge. Then, they filmed the effects of different cuts on flight. The researchers found that slicing off the sub-epimeral ridge disrupted the transmission. In addition, they used a high-speed camera to capture the flies’ intricate flight movements.
Flies can cause health problems if they contaminate your food. They can carry a wide range of diseases, including Salmonella and E. coli. When they land on uncooked food, their feces can contain harmful pathogens. They can also cause health problems, particularly if they are breeding around open latrines, outdoor food markets, and slaughterhouses.
