Where Does Flies Lay Eggs?

Without these, they cannot survive. To prevent fly infestations in your home, block any open spaces where flies can enter.
Flies lay eggs in warm, moist areas. The eggs will hatch after about eight to twenty hours. The larvae are tiny, pale white worms that look similar to grains of rice. The eggs are fertilized by the male fly and live for eight to twenty days. Flies will lay up to 500 eggs during their lifetime. In a single day, a female fly can lay 75 to 150 eggs.
Flies lay their eggs on decaying organic matter. They feed on garbage, dead animals, carrion, and other sources of organic matter. Their eggs are small, white, and about 0.05 inches long. Once laid, they hatch within eight to twenty hours. During the winter months, flies can hibernate in cold places.
Adult flies live for fifteen to twenty-five days. Some species can live for two months. When food is available, they live longer. They are more likely to survive at cooler temperatures, which can help them resist disease. Flies lay their eggs near open wounds and sores. After they have hatched, the larvae move deeper into the body.
