Is Flies an Insect?

All flies are attracted to moist organic materials and are useful scavengers. However, some species have no wings at all. In addition to adults, flies also have immature stages called maggots. These insects live in water and usually have gills and a breathing tube.
The largest part of a fly is the abdomen. It contains the rearmost nervous system, digestive system, and circulatory system. The abdomen is filled with a clear hemolymph. This blood bathes the organs and collects waste along the way. In addition to the abdomen, flies have a digestive system, which consists of a long tube from mouth to rectum. The digestive system is composed of several sections, such as the mouth, which extracts nutrients from food and passes them through semi-permeable membranes.
