Cleaning your home regularly and securing cracks and holes can help prevent the infestation of flies. But, if you can’t control the population, you may be facing an uncontrollable problem.
Houseflies are the most common type of flies that invade homes. These insects reproduce quickly and in large numbers. They can travel up to 20 miles from the place they were hatched. However, they typically stay within a mile of their original home. Insects can enter homes through cracks and gaps in windows and doors, damaged weather stripping, and torn screens.
Fruit flies can be problematic. The problem is that they often seem to appear from nowhere. According to Dr. Jim Fredricks, Chief Entomologist at the National Pest Management Association, they hatch from eggs as gelatinous globs. Afterwards, they go through rapid metamorphosis, which allows them to acquire full flight and sight.
