Cat fleas are the most common kind of flea. These tiny parasitic bugs are highly infectious and are capable of transmitting them to human host animals. When your kitten comes in contact with fleas, the fleas can enter your kitten’s bloodstream and cause severe itching. They can also cause anemia, especially in young kittens.
Besides fleas, kittens may also suffer from intestinal parasites. These parasites are absorbed from mother’s milk, making it possible for your kitten to catch them almost immediately after birth. Your vet will be able to help your kitten get rid of fleas, and prevent future outbreaks of intestinal parasites.
As previously mentioned, fleas can also cause tapeworm infections. While most kittens do not get tapeworms, the fleas they ingest have tapeworm larvae. These larvae live inside the flea and grow inside the cat’s intestinal wall. If you cat eats birds or mice, it will also catch tapeworms.
