How to Get Rid of Fleas
Fleas are a common household problem, but there are ways to get rid of them. Washing soft furnishings and vacuuming thoroughly will kill fleas. Be sure to vacuum cracks between floors and baseboards, and underneath furniture. When you’re done, put the contents of the vacuum bag in a trash can. You can also use natural flea repellents to keep fleas out of your home. Garlic cloves, rosemary oil, and cedar chips can all be used to kill fleas.
You can also use heat to kill fleas. However, be aware that heat may not kill the eggs, so they can still hatch later. If you’re dealing with a serious flea infestation, you may need to use a flea “bomb” or a professional exterminator. If you want to get rid of fleas quickly, however, it’s best to do it yourself.
Fleas reproduce rapidly. They can lay up to 2,000 eggs during their lifetime. Fleas will feed on a host’s blood and lay eggs anywhere they find it. Flea eggs are small, smooth, and white. They’re laid in a pet’s fur, carpets, and even tall grass. Fleas are capable of developing from an egg to an adult flea in just two to three weeks, depending on the environment.
Fleas live on pets, carpets, and furniture. If you don’t get rid of them quickly, it can take months to get rid of them. A good prevention plan is to vacuum as frequently as you can. Once they have laid their eggs, they can live up to a year without a blood meal.
