How Fleas Kill Newborn Kittens
Fleas can cause anemia in young kittens, and if you notice a significant flea infestation, you should take immediate action to prevent this. The first thing to do is to make sure your kitten is warm. You should use a hair dryer on a low setting and place it at least two feet from the kitten. Avoid using flea medications on young kittens, as they can be toxic and harmful to their health.
Alternatively, you can bathe your kitten in a bath, using soap. Using a bath will eliminate most fleas and flea dirt, and will also kill any flea eggs, larvae, and pupae. You can also try flea combs, which work by removing the fleas from your kitten’s fur.
The first step in treating a kitten with fleas is to bathe it in warm water with a pet-safe dishwashing detergent. Begin at the neck and work your way down to the tail. Make sure the detergent reaches the cat’s tail and neck, so that fleas cannot run up your kitten’s body. You can also use a flea comb to remove fleas and tweezers. After bathing your kitten, rinse it thoroughly.
Another effective way to treat fleas is by using a topical medication. These medications kill fleas on the skin, and are effective for up to a month. Some treatments can be administered during pregnancy, while others are only suitable for older cats.
