How Fleas Can Change Your Cat’s Behaviour

Fleas can make your cat very uncomfortable and change its behaviour in many ways. It may start growling, rubbing itself aggressively on the floor, or darting from room to room.
Fleas can make your cat extremely itchy, causing it to scratch and chew excessively. This itching can lead to bald patches on your cat’s body, most commonly on the lower back, between shoulder blades, or along the legs. The hair on your cat may also become dry and flaky, and your cat may be spending more time grooming itself.
The researchers found that the fleas transferred from one cat to another were mostly female. They were all gravid, meaning they were already carrying eggs. Interestingly, the rate of transmission was very low, so mature fleas managed to infest new cats. Despite the low transmission rate, male fleas were more likely to change hosts than female fleas.
You can also consider medicated collars for fleas. Some of them have a quick-release fitting, which makes them safe for your cat to wear. However, not all cats like these collars, so it’s best to consult a vet before using any type of medication. Another option is oral medications. Many cats are not keen on the taste of medication, and some cats are very suspicious of it.
