Are Fleas More Active in the Morning?
The question of whether fleas are more active in the morning is a valid one. Many pet owners think that fleas only come out in the night and are less active during the day. The truth is that fleas are most active at night. During the day, fleas are not as active and have less time to breed.
During warmer months, fleas are active and feed on the blood of warm-blooded animals. They are most active during the night and at dusk, when they can lay eggs. Fleas that stay inside the house are usually found in areas where pets sleep.
Adult fleas emerge from their pupal cocoons a month after the eggs are laid. They are attracted to warm environments, carbon dioxide, and physical pressure. Newly-emerged fleas live in the carpet and furniture of pets. They prefer the warmth of a bed.
Fleas prefer warm temperatures – between 35 and 75 degrees Celsius. However, they can survive cold temperatures and even cocoon if necessary. The ideal conditions for fleas include temperatures around 70 percent relative humidity. During the winter months, the temperatures drop below 35degC.
Fleas love warm moist areas and they lay their eggs in them. However, they are afraid of too much sunlight. By keeping your yard clean, you can keep fleas away from your home.
