Where Does Cockroaches Lay Their Eggs?

Generally, cockroaches can be found in the kitchen and bathroom, but there are many places where they can nest. Cockroaches are very irritating and hard to get rid of. Often, killing the adults will not remove the ootheca or eggs, so you need to do a thorough inspection of the area.

Cockroaches lay their eggs inside ootheca, a hard casing that protects their eggs. These hard shells are reddish brown in color and may have ridges along the sides. They vary in size depending on the species. For example, an Oriental roach’s ootheca is approximately eight to ten mm long.

Cockroaches will sometimes lay their eggs in a small crack or hole. A dead cockroach will indicate that a nest is nearby, but you can also look for cockroach feces. Cockroaches tend to hide well, so looking for dead cockroaches is the best way to spot the nest.

American cockroaches are widespread in the world, though they are most common in tropical and subtropical areas. Females lay one to two dozen eggs at a time, with the eggs hatching after about two months. The eggs themselves are brown pill-shaped capsules, measuring less than a quarter of an inch long.
