How to Identify If Cockroach Eggs Are Visible
A good way to identify if you have a cockroach infestation is by looking for visible cockroach eggs. These insects lay their eggs everywhere – in cabinets, drawers, and even clothes. Often you can see the egg casing when you take a folded piece of clothing out of your closet. However, some types of clothes may take longer to reveal the egg casing than others, such as brown or coarse-looking clothing.
To identify whether cockroach eggs are visible, look for an egg case. These are small, rounded, and easily visible. They are protected by a protective case, called an “ootheca.” These ootheca cases protect the eggs from predators. They can be a brown or yellowish-brown color and can be either symmetrical or asymmetrical. Usually, an egg case contains anywhere from 10 to 40 cockroach eggs.
If you see a cockroach egg case, it’s likely that it’s a female. Female cockroaches are able to fertilize several eggs at one time before mating. In order to do this, the female cockroach has a gland at her head that produces a pheromone and reproductive hormone. Without the head, the female would not be able to produce fertilized eggs.
Cockroaches are not loners, so it’s important to know what to look for if you suspect a cockroach infestation. These insects are not clean, so you may be able to spot them during the day and night.
