This is because cockroaches adapt slowly to a dropping temperature, but cannot adjust to sudden drops.
Cockroaches spend most of their time hiding. A fully-grown roach can fit into a hole about the size of a pen or coin. This makes them great at hiding. This means that even if you see one cockroach in the open, there are probably hundreds or even thousands in the wall or crevices of a room. Cockroaches also eat anything and everything.
Despite their small size, cockroaches are hardy creatures. A sealed plastic bag can keep them alive for 3-5 days. Their unique respiratory system allows them to survive on little air. In fact, they can hold their breath for 45 minutes at a time. Nevertheless, it is important to note that a cockroach can only live for a few minutes without oxygen.
In comparison, humans breathe through the nose or mouth. This process is controlled by the brain. Cockroaches are different from us in that they breathe through their spiracles. The spiracles pipe the air directly to their tissues. This allows them to survive for longer periods of time without water.
