How Long Do Cockroaches Live?
Cockroaches live for at least a year. Their lifespan depends on the temperature in which they live. Their life cycle has several stages, including egg capsules that develop about a week apart. As they mature, cockroaches are ready to reproduce. Typically, they find shelter in sewers and attics. They may also be found in kitchens and bathrooms.
Cockroaches are born as nymphs and go through ten stages before reaching adulthood. The number of instar stages varies depending on the species. For example, the German cockroach can live for two months without food. On the other hand, the American cockroach takes about 600 days to reach adulthood.
If they’re trapped or injured, a cockroach will only survive for three days without water. However, if it’s a total vacuum, the roaches will die within minutes. Alternatively, if they are trapped in a normal vacuum bag, the cockroaches won’t die immediately. However, they may die from dehydration after a few days.
Cockroaches are one of the oldest insects on Earth. Their life cycle plays an important role in their survival, as they need a suitable environment to reproduce. As such, they can have as many as 200 siblings in a single year.
