It’s hard to imagine an insect getting high from alcohol, but beer is a favorite food of cockroaches. They love the sugar content in beer and will drink it until they get buzzed. This alcohol intoxication can lead to an unpleasant high, but it doesn’t mean they’ll go crazy in the process.

Cockroaches are notoriously adaptable creatures. They can live in just about any environment. They’re nocturnal, which means they won’t bother you during the day. Cockroaches will often bite during the night, when their targets are asleep. Aside from being nocturnal, cockroaches are also extremely cautious of humans.

Cockroaches are omnivorous scavengers. They typically feed on decaying plant matter, but they’ll also eat most things humans leave lying around the house. For example, they’ll eat leather, glue, and fabric. They’ll even eat things in your pantry, like rice and bread. These creatures also like starchy food, which makes them attractive to predators.

Cockroaches were also found to be able to detect narcotics. While cocaine is not a psychoactive drug, it’s a highly stimulating substance that can alter an insect’s behavior. Cockroaches didn’t get high from cocaine, but they were significantly affected by LSD, which acts on the serotonin receptors that are abundant in insects. However, higher doses of LSD had toxic effects.

Cockroaches don’t often fly, but they can glide. In fact, some species in New York City have wings. Some are able to fly for a short distance, while others only manage to glide from high places to lower ones.
