How Big Can a Cockroach Get?
Cockroaches are not only disgusting, but they can also pose a health risk. In fact, some species can grow as large as 3 inches in length. Their size depends on the species, as well as the habitat in which they live. To get a better idea of how large a cockroach can get, we’ll look at some of the larger species that have made their homes in the United States.
American cockroaches are one of the largest roach species in the United States. They can grow up to three inches in length, and they often have a yellow band on the top of their head. They have six legs, two straight antennae, and oval bodies. These insects don’t use wings to fly; instead, they rely heavily on their legs to scurry from one place to another.
Cockroaches grow slowly. They can take up to two years to mature. Adults can reach two inches in length. Cockroaches can molt up to 13 times before reaching maturity. Cockroaches molt to replace their old exoskeletons. Once they have completed molting, they will grow in size and develop wings. They can even turn white for a brief period of time!
Fortunately, cockroaches aren’t as big as they used to be. Some species are even smaller than their ancient relatives. They are typically found running around garages and storage areas.
