How Bad is a Cockroach Bite?
Cockroach bites are not a serious condition but they can cause some temporary discomfort. These bites are about one to four millimetres in size and can be painful and red. Fortunately, cockroaches are not venomous and do not transmit any diseases.
Cockroaches do not intend to bite you and do not mean to cause any harm. They are attracted to your skin due to the smell of food. You might even have no idea they are biting you! However, if you have been living in a house where roaches live, you’ll have experienced the pain that a cockroach bite causes.
The first thing you need to do to treat a cockroach bite is to clean it with soap and warm water. You should also apply an anti-itch cream. Alternatively, you can try using a tea bag or rubbing some baking soda on the area. This can help soothe the area and reduce the swelling.
Another way to soothe the itching and pain associated with a cockroach bite is by applying lemon juice. You can use a damp cotton bud or a wet cloth to apply the juice. The juice will reduce swelling and minimize the temptation to scratch the area. For severe cases, you may wish to use hydrogen peroxide. If you’re not comfortable using hydrogen peroxide, you can use ethyl alcohol instead.
In addition to causing irritation and discomfort, cockroaches are also known disease carriers. They transmit multiple types of viruses and bacteria to humans. The bites of cockroaches can lead to asthma attacks and anaphylaxis, which is a condition in which a person experiences complete shock and lowered blood pressure. This condition is fatal if not treated promptly.
