How a Cockroach Looks
Knowing how a cockroach looks can help you identify it from other types of bugs. In addition to their distinctive appearance, cockroaches are also odorous, leaving a musty odor behind on surfaces and food. They can also be very dangerous! If you find a cockroach, you’ll want to get rid of it right away!
A cockroach has six legs, a hard shell covering its body, and a pair of long antennae. The head is almost entirely covered by the body’s armored shell, which makes it bounce back when stepped on. Some species have folding wings. A cockroach’s head is usually facing downward and covered with a wing-like cover.
A cockroach is commonly found in dark and warm environments, like a kitchen or a bathroom. Its wings are comparatively smaller than a moth, and it tends to hide in areas where it can’t be seen. It tends to hide in places like wall studs, piles of clutter, and furniture. It also tends to congregate near heat sources, such as large appliances.
Cockroaches have distinct colors and sizes. The female cockroach is larger than the male, and its body color varies. A German cockroach nymph measures about an eighth of an inch. As it grows, it develops into an adult. Cockroach eggs are usually oval and dark brown. Female cockroaches lay eggs in clusters, and nymphs remain attached to their bodies for a few days before maturing into adults.
