Cockroach Repellent – How to Get Rid of Cockroaches
One of the best ways to keep cockroaches from entering your home is to use a cockroach repellent. Although it is tempting to spray your entire house, you’ll be less likely to repel them if you choose to target specific areas. In order to have a long-term effect, you need to concentrate your efforts. Besides being a nuisance, cockroaches can spread disease and leave behind foul odors. To eliminate them completely, use a cockroach repellent that targets the specific areas where they congregate. This means sprinkling repellent around entryways, cracks, and pipe openings.
Another way to get rid of cockroaches is to use essential oils. Alpha-pinene oil is a great repellent, and beta-pinene oil works well, too. Thyme essential oil has a chemical called carvacrol, which is a natural cockroach repellent. You can dilute this oil to create a cockroach repellent spray.
Essential oils have long been known to be effective repellents. Peppermint oil comes from the peppermint plant and is highly effective because of the smell. Peppermint is also completely non-toxic and contains no additives. Other effective roach repellents include lavender, eucalyptus, and tea tree oils. Lemon and rosemary essential oils can also be used to deter cockroaches.
Other natural cockroach repellents involve smell. Cockroaches don’t like strong fragrances. For this reason, essential oils have been used for centuries as cockroach repellents. Peppermint, in particular, has a particularly powerful scent that repels roaches. These essential oils can be found in a variety of plants and herbs.
