This speed is similar to adult ants’ sprinting speed. That means bedbugs can reach any area of your home easily, including cracks in bed frames. They can also crawl up headboards and walls.
Bedbugs also have the ability to move in tight spaces. If they don’t have a host nearby, they can hide in small crevices and under upholstered furniture. This makes them difficult to catch. If they are not discovered right away, they can easily spread to other rooms of your home.
The speed at which bedbugs move is different than that of most other insects. Although they have tiny hooks on their legs, they are unable to fly. They can move about 1.2 feet in a minute when exposed to a hot air blow dryer. In addition, bedbugs have a slow reproduction rate. Female bedbugs can lay one egg per day, which is slower than the reproduction rate of a common housefly. Once they lay their eggs, it takes about 10 days for them to hatch.
While most people will notice bedbug bites in the morning, the bites can sometimes appear after the bedbugs are asleep. However, they are not painful unless they are accompanied by a fever or other symptoms. These symptoms will vary from one person to another, depending on their skin sensitivity and the location of the bite.
