Which States Have the Most Bed Bugs?
The bed bug situation in the United States is a major concern for families, and a recent list has pinpointed which states have the worst infestations. Chicago, for example, is one of the worst cities to have bed bugs, welcoming nearly 48 million visitors each year. In addition, the city has a vast transit system, carrying 1.7 million passengers each week. Second and third place are taken by Baltimore and Washington, DC. However, these rankings are subject to change each year.
States with the worst infestation rates include California, New York, Ohio, and Maryland. While these areas have consistently been ranked as the worst states for bedbugs, they have been moving up the list in recent years. New Jersey, Maryland, and Florida have also seen their numbers climb. Those living in these areas should be especially vigilant about the issue and purchase a bed bug killer.
While Ohio is a relatively new state, it has already seen more than 1,400 reported bed bug incidents in hotels. In fact, Cincinnati has been hit the hardest by infestations, with more than 80 bed bug reports filed statewide. And while Texas doesn’t rank among the worst states, Dallas is a hotbed for bed bugs. The city has more than 1,470 reported cases and nearly 70 of those alleged incidents were in a hotel.
Los Angeles came just shy of the top 10 list on the Orkin 2020 bed bug cities list. Terminix ranks Los Angeles as runner-up. Previously, Washington, D.C. was the top state for bed bug infestations, but in 2021, Los Angeles will take the top spot. Currently, Los Angeles has more than four hundred reported bed bug sightings on its Bed Bug Registry, which is an excellent indicator of how widespread the problem is.
