While a single night with bedbug bites may be tolerable, if you’re planning to stay in a hotel for more than a night, you should make sure to check out the hotel’s protocol for treating bedbugs.
In New York City, one hotel is consistently among the worst for bedbugs. According to a report by the pest-control company Pest Strategies, Queens County Inn and Suites is the number one offender. The property has been the subject of 36 complaints since 2010 and hasn’t responded to requests for comment.
According to Anthony O’Neill, a pest-control expert with 20 years’ experience, bedbugs often hide in the bathtub or shower. This allows them to feed on light-colored surfaces, which makes them easier to spot. Despite their small size, bedbugs prefer to hide near their host and feed at night.
It’s possible to spot these bugs by looking at their droppings. These can appear as small brown spots or tinged with blood. If you find any of these, you should snap pictures and document them. If you’re unsure, you can always call the hotel and ask if there are any bedbugs there.
