Where Does Bed Bugs Originally Come From?
Bedbugs are parasites that live in the bed, hiding in cracks and crevices. While they do not carry disease, their bites can leave a red rash and can make sleeping difficult. These bugs are believed to have originated in caves used by bats and humans in the Middle East. These insects were often used as a home remedy in ancient times.
Bedbugs have been a problem for humans for thousands of years. In fact, bedbugs predate the dinosaurs and are thought to have survived the asteroid that wiped out the dinosaurs. The bugs were also used by ancient Egyptians to treat snake bites. Their existence can be traced back as far as the 1st century BC.
There are many theories about where bedbugs originate. According to entomologist Dr. Michael Potter, fossils of bedbugs have been found dating back 3,500 years. Even the ancient Greeks used these bugs for medicinal purposes. In fact, the Greeks burned the bugs with sulfur to encourage them to leave the human host.
Bedbugs live in the human skin and feed on the blood of a host. Their saliva contains an anticoagulant and anesthetic. As a result, they can cause an allergic reaction in some people. The bites are not always immediately noticeable. It can take up to 14 days for the first signs to appear. When bedbugs are fully mature, they begin reproducing. A mature female can lay seven eggs in a day and hundreds of eggs in her lifetime.
