Where Does Bed Bugs Lay Their Eggs?
Female bed bugs lay their eggs in hidden areas. They can lay as many as one to seven eggs per day. The eggs are usually sticky and about the size of a pinhead and are white. They hatch after six to seventeen days. Adult bed bugs require food at regular intervals to remain healthy and to lay eggs.
In human homes, bed bugs usually lay their eggs in dark, enclosed areas. These areas can include the mattress, box spring, or bed frame. They may also lay their eggs in cracks in the walls, between the wallpaper and the wall, behind pictures and shelving, and under the carpet. If you find these eggs, you may have an infestation.
The female bed bug usually lays three to four eggs daily. The eggs hatch after 10 days or two weeks. This means there are always new batches of bed bugs waiting to feed on humans. Female bed bugs typically prefer dirty clothes to lay eggs on. The eggs hatch in six to seventeen days and the nymphs start feeding on the host within a few days.
In addition to the mattress, bedbugs can hide in the box spring, headboard, or upholstered furniture. These areas are often dark, unnoticed, and ideal hiding places for these pests. Also, the edges of wall-to-wall carpeting, cracks in wood molding, and loose wallpaper are popular places where these bugs can live.
