When Do Bed Bugs Die Naturally?
It’s not clear exactly when bed bugs die naturally, but they can easily live for up to 12 months without food. In a cool room, they can last up to three months without feeding, but at a room temperature, they’re only capable of living for two or three months. It’s also possible for a bedbug infestation to last a year.
One of the best ways to get rid of bed bugs is to toss the affected clothes into the washer. When you do this, make sure you use the highest heat setting. Heat is an excellent tool in the fight against bed bugs, as bed bugs cannot withstand temperatures above 125 F. But it’s a good idea to keep the temperature below that level for several days. This will ensure that the bugs die off in a timely manner.
One way to kill bed bugs without chemicals is by using a chemical called Diatomaceous Earth. This white powder has a strong smell and kills insects instantly. It works by absorbing the lipids from the bed bugs’ exoskeletons, thus inhibiting the evaporation of their water. This leads to their dehydration and ultimately their death.
Another method that can help get rid of bed bugs is to keep the temperatures at around 50 degrees. This will cause the insects to enter a dormant state, allowing you to remove the bed bugs. This method is effective only if you can eliminate all of the bugs in your home. During colder months, however, bed bugs are less active and go into a state of hibernation.
