How Long Do Bed Bugs Live on Clothes?
If you’ve noticed bugs on your clothes, the first thing you should do is wash them as soon as possible. Typically, bedbugs live on your clothes for about a month, and after that time they will either die or move on to another piece of cloth. However, sometimes they will stay on your clothes for a longer time.
One way to get rid of bed bugs is by using heat. Human body produces a lot of heat, which bedbugs don’t like. Once they’ve had their blood meal, they’ll leave. Heat can help you kill the bugs, but it can’t eliminate all of them.
Another way to kill bed bugs is by freezing them. By reducing the temperature of your clothes to -17 degrees Celsius (or 0 degrees F) for about 24 hours, you will kill all the adults and nymphs on your clothes. However, it takes a lot longer than this for a batch of clothes to reach that temperature. You can also freeze your clothes in a dry cleaning machine. Dry cleaning will also kill bed bugs in all stages.
Although it is tempting to throw away your clothing once you notice a bed bug infestation, it’s not necessary to toss them. First, you should identify all areas of infestation and check all of your clothes thoroughly. Also, you should avoid transporting your clothing to avoid spreading the bugs from one place to another. You should also sort your clothes before washing them and cover them with plastic to keep them safe from the bugs.
