Do bed bugs live in hair? These insects are actually parasites that feed on the blood of a human host. Because of this, they may get stuck in your hair, but they can’t lay eggs there. This is an important fact to know, as bed bugs can easily escape detection if you let them.

In the case that you’ve spotted a few bed bugs in your hair, you can either shampoo them out, or simply toss them down the toilet. If you’re not sure, you can also ask a friend to check your hair and comb it out. Shampooing your hair thoroughly will get rid of bedbug exoskeletons and excrement. Once the hair is clean, you can blow dry it, but it’s not necessary.

The best way to know if you have a bedbug infestation is to contact a professional. Although bedbugs don’t normally live in hair, they can bite you on your scalp, cheeks, or neck. Fortunately, these bugs prefer cooler environments and are less likely to stay around after feeding.

The EPA isn’t able to help you with the removal of bedbugs, but they can offer guidelines on what you can do to get rid of the infestation. If you’re not able to find the bug, you can try to spray your hair with pesticides.
