Can Bed Bugs Kill You?
If you’ve ever woken up in the middle of the night with an itchy, red welt, you know what bedbug bites are like. Bedbugs can cause skin infections, such as ecthyma, lymphangitis, and impetigo, and they can also cause a host of psychological problems, such as stress, anxiety, and insomnia.
In some rare cases, a bedbug bite can cause anemia. The lack of red blood cells causes a person to become weak and fatigued. Although mild anemia is not fatal, it may cause other medical problems, such as a compromised immune system. Some people may experience multiple anemias. It is therefore important to seek medical attention if you experience a bedbug infestation.
Bedbugs are nocturnal and feed at night. They feed on the skin of their prey where the bare skin touches the litter box. After feeding, the bugs move on to the next location to feed on the next suitable meal. Then, they move again and take a third bite. Upon reaching their third feeding, they will leave characteristic lines of holes.
Moreover, bedbugs can cause allergic reactions. In some cases, it can lead to anaphylaxis, a potentially life-threatening condition. The symptoms of this disease include swelling of the tongue and throat and difficulty breathing. In such cases, patients will need to be hospitalized and monitored for a few days. Many patients also experience psychological problems due to the infestation.
