What Ants Are Native to Florida?

Various types of ants are native to Florida. Some are more troublesome than others, but most ants are harmless.

Fire Ants are also found in Florida. These insects are reddish brown in color. They are found throughout the southern part of the United States and in the Appalachian Mountains. These ants are often found outside, but they may also nest in gardens and carefully maintained landscapes. They sting humans and may hunt for meat and sugary foods.

White Footed Ants are also common. These ants tend to live in damp areas, such as near standing water or in moist wood. They can be seen foraging for food, especially near the home’s kitchen. They are most active during the rainy season.

These ants are often found in bathrooms and kitchens. These are areas where ants can squeeze through tiny cracks. During swarm season, they can be seen flying from outside to forage for food.

These insects are not as dangerous as fire ants, but they can be a major pest. Using a borax mix is a good way to kill them. However, this treatment should not be used on infants or pets.
