During the early eighties, Adam and the Ants was one of the most popular bands in the UK. They had two UK singles at #1. They also recorded three top 20 albums. They were one of the first bands to use music videos and tribal rhythms. Their songs were a mixture of Punk sensibility and heroic imagery.

Adam Ant was born in Marylebone, London on November 3, 1954. He was the son of chauffeur Leslie Goddard and cleaner Betty Kathleen Smith. He attended St Marylebone Grammar School and Hornsey College of Art. Adam was diagnosed with bipolar disorder when he was 21. He had a cocaine habit in the 1980s.

In the 1980s, Adam and the Ants had a number of hit singles including “Stand and Deliver”, “Antrap” and “Physical (You’re So)”. They toured the world and achieved huge success. Their album “Kings of the Wild Frontier” reached #1 in the UK album charts. They sold 15 million records worldwide.

After Adam and the Ants broke up, Adam started a solo career. He released the album “Wonderful” in 1995. He also toured with Nine Inch Nails. He performed “Physical” twice on tour with them in 1995.

He also toured with his new band. They included trumpeter Tony Hughes, drummer Cha Burns, and guitarist Marco Pirroni. He also recruited Leigh Gorman and Chris Constantinou as bass players. They performed at the Astoria Theatre in London in October 1982.

The Ants signed to Do-it Records, a Camden based “indie” label. They recorded the album “Vive le Rock” in 1985. They also recorded a second session for the BBC Peel show.
