Honey is a good source of protein. If you have a colony of semi-claustral species, you should feed them one to two times a week.
Other protein sources include chicken, mealworms, plain whey protein powder, and crickets. If you don’t have any of these on hand, you can also use cat or dog food with a high protein content.
Most ants can tolerate temperatures from below zero to 30 degrees. In the winter, you should provide your ants with a cool location to hibernate. Ants have thermoregulation abilities, so they will move more quickly and slowly in cold temperatures.
