Ants

How Do Ants Kill Fleas?

Depending on the species, ants can be attracted to a variety of foods. Some prefer sweets, fruit and nuts while others prefer dead insects. A few species are known to prefer fatty substances like meat.

Ants are also attracted to liquid excrement. Some ants may even nest indoors. You can keep them out of your home by sealing off access points or plugging them with petroleum jelly.

You can also use insecticidal soap to control ants. Use 1 to 2 tablespoons per quart of water. Insecticidal soap is safe for pets.

Some people have found that fire ants can reduce fleas in their yard. A fire ant colony will eat both adult and larvae fleas.

You can also use nematodes for flea control. Some nematodes penetrate the exoskeleton of fleas, and they eat flea larvae. Nematodes are also useful for termite control.

Some people also like to use ladybugs for flea control. They can be found in local gardening stores. Ladybugs have an appetite for over 50 insects a day. They can be released in small groups after watering your plants.

Another option for flea control is a reusable bait station. These stations are more effective than pre-packaged baits. They also protect the bait from photodegradation. The station can be opened and checked periodically.

If you prefer, you can buy pesticide baits that are packaged in small tubes. You can also use gel formulations that are applied in small cracks.
