Ants

Does Ants Like Mint?

Whether you are growing a garden or simply want to make your home more bug-free, you can use mint to repel ants. The herb’s scent can clog ants’ sense of smell and disrupt their scent trails.

Mint plants can be planted around the exterior of your home, along your doorways, around window sills, or anywhere else you want to keep ants out. Ants are attracted to moisture and food, and can become a nuisance.

Peppermint essential oil can also be used as a natural ant repellent. Just soak a cotton ball in peppermint oil, and then place it in an area where ants tend to live. You can also use a cotton ball soaked in peppermint oil to spray around your windows, baseboards, and other places where ants are commonly found.

Another way to repel ants is to use a variety of citrus fruits. Lemons, oranges, and limes will mask the scent trails ants create, and deter them from entering your home. You can also make a bug repellent spray with a mixture of basil oil and witch hazel.

You can also use coffee grounds as an ant repellent. Sprinkle them around the stems of plants or on your window sills. The coffee grounds are full of minerals and can deter insects, including ants.

You can also use other herbs. Basil has a unique scent and is very effective at deterring ants. Lemon thyme is also effective at deterring cabbage moths.
