Ants and Diatomaceous Earth

Using diatomaceous earth as an ant control agent is a safe, effective and inexpensive way to rid your home of ants. The earth works by absorbing fats and moisture from insects, drying them out and killing them.

Diatomaceous earth is also used to kill fleas and ticks. It is a nontoxic and safe pesticide for use both indoors and outdoors. It can be applied with a spray bottle or flour sifter.

Ants are a very common pest in many homes. They are also a valuable member of nature. Ants play an important role in pollinating flowers and fruit trees. The queen ant tells the ants how to build their nests and defend them from intruders.

Diatomaceous Earth (DE) is a naturally occurring substance that contains silica. It is also an ingredient in many commercial products. It is safe to use on your family and pets.

When ants crawl through diatomaceous earth, the tiny particles cut through the ant’s exoskeleton. The diatoms stick to the ant’s exoskeleton and cause it to dry out. The ants die from dehydration.

To kill ants, you must apply Diatomaceous Earth along the ant trail. Make sure to follow the product label instructions. If you have any questions, you can always visit the Diatomaceous Earth website.

Once you have treated your home for ants, you should monitor your nest. If you see signs that the ants are recolonizing, you should dust the area.

Diatomaceous earth is also effective against other pests including cockroaches, termites, earwigs and fleas. It is especially effective against insects that have an exoskeleton.
